DIGITAL SCHOOLS — ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

Last updated: April 2026

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

Digital Schools is committed to ensuring that digitalschools.org.uk is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or the technology they use to browse the web. We believe that accessibility is not an optional extra — it is a fundamental part of good web design.

This commitment extends beyond our own website. Every school website we design and build for our clients is developed with accessibility at its core, helping schools meet their legal obligations under the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 and supporting the widest possible range of pupils, parents, and community members to access information online.

2. How Accessible Is This Website

digitalschools.org.uk has been designed and built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We aim to meet or exceed these standards across the entire site.

We are committed to:

  • Providing sufficient colour contrast between text and background
  • Ensuring all images have descriptive alt text
  • Structuring content with clear, logical headings
  • Ensuring the website is navigable by keyboard alone
  • Making all content readable by screen readers and assistive technologies
  • Ensuring the site is fully responsive and usable on all devices and screen sizes

This website has not yet been subject to a formal independent accessibility audit. We continue to review and improve the accessibility of our site on an ongoing basis.

3. Known Accessibility Limitations

We are aware of the following area that may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards:

  • Video captions — some video content embedded on this website may not currently include full captions or subtitles. We are working to address this and will add captions to all video content as a priority.

If you encounter any other accessibility issues on our website, please contact us using the details in section 5 and we will work to resolve them promptly.

4. What to Do If You Cannot Access Content

If you experience difficulty accessing any content on digitalschools.org.uk, or if you need information in an alternative format, please contact us:

We will aim to respond within 5 working days and provide the information you need in a format that works for you.

5. Technical Information

Digital Schools is committed to making digitalschools.org.uk accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is built on WordPress using the Avada theme framework and has been developed to be compatible with the following:

  • Modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge
  • Screen readers including NVDA and VoiceOver
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality

6. How We Build Accessible School Websites

Accessibility is built into every school website Digital Schools designs and delivers — not added as an afterthought. When we work with a school or multi-academy trust, accessibility is considered at every stage of the design and build process.

Every school website we produce is developed to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, in line with the requirements of the:

  • Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 — which require all school and academy websites to meet WCAG 2.1 AA as a legal obligation
  • Equality Act 2010 — which requires schools to make reasonable adjustments to ensure services are accessible to disabled users
  • DfE statutory guidance on school websites — which sets out the content schools are required to publish and make accessible online

Our school websites are built with clear heading structures, high contrast colour schemes, fully descriptive image alt text, keyboard-navigable menus, and responsive layouts that work across all devices. We also support schools in meeting their obligation to publish an accessibility statement on their own website.
