Meet Jon Robson – Founder & Senior Creative Strategist
Jon’s background isn’t a typical agency story.
Before Digital Schools, he spent over a decade as founder of Cafe Society – a digital media organisation that worked with young people and communities across four continents. On the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. In the Seychelles. In post-civil-war Freetown, Sierra Leone. In rural Ethiopia. And in the schools and communities of Hull and the Holderness coast that rarely made it onto anyone else’s radar.
That work was funded by UNICEF, the British Council and the BBC. It was exhibited at national festivals and galleries. It was commissioned by the British Library. And it was built entirely around one conviction – that every community, however overlooked, has a story worth telling well.
That conviction is the reason Digital Schools exists.
Jon is also a professional photographer with thirty years of experience behind the lens – from documentary work in Arizona and West Africa to school photography across Yorkshire and the Humber. When Digital Schools photographs your school, it’s not a standard photography package. It’s the work of a photographer who has spent three decades understanding how an image tells a story.
Content. Creativity. Compliance. In that order – always.
Who we are
We only work with schools.
Here’s why.
Digital Schools didn’t start with a business plan. It started with a belief — that every school deserves a website as good as the education happening inside it.
Over twenty years ago, long before school websites were considered essential, Jon Robson was designing and maintaining websites for twelve schools across the Withernsea and South Holderness Education Action Zone – a coastal community that felt overlooked and underserved. Each site was built to reflect the individual identity of its school, to connect it with parents, and to give it a voice in an increasingly digital world.
The technology was never the point. The community was.
That same philosophy has shaped everything Digital Schools has built since. From those first twelve sites on the East Yorkshire coast to a portfolio of over sixty schools and multi-academy trusts across Yorkshire and the Humber, the core belief hasn’t changed: a school website should be as distinctive, as warm, and as ambitious as the school it represents.
Today the Digital Schools team provides bespoke website design, professional school photography, film production and branding – all under one roof, all built exclusively for the education sector. Every website we deliver is built around current statutory requirements and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards, and backed by an annual Service Level Agreement that keeps it secure, updated and performing.
Everything we produce is created specifically for education. That means understanding safeguarding, statutory requirements, accessibility and the practical realities of working in busy schools – while never losing sight of creativity. Whether we’re designing a website, developing a new identity, photographing school life or producing a film, the aim is the same: to communicate what makes each school distinctive.
Content, Creativity & Compliance. That’s not just a tagline – it’s how we approach every school we work with.
About our services
SCHOOL WEBSITE DESIGN.
We design school websites that make an immediate impact – visually stunning, intuitively structured and built around Ofsted’s statutory requirements from the ground up. No bolt-on compliance checklists. No generic templates. Just a website that genuinely reflects your school and stands up to scrutiny.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY.
Your website is only as good as the images it contains. Our school photography service captures the real atmosphere of your school – engaged pupils, brilliant staff, vibrant spaces – giving parents and visitors an authentic first impression before they’ve even stepped through the door.
SCHOOL BRANDING & LOGO DESIGN.
A strong brand gives your school identity, consistency and pride. We design logos and visual identities that are distinctive, purposeful and built to work across your website, signage, uniform and communications – all tailored specifically to your school’s values and community.
SCHOOL FILM & VIDEO PRODUCTION.
A school film does what photography alone cannot – it captures the energy, the voices, and the atmosphere of your school in motion. From promotional films and curriculum footage to academy trust films and governors’ welcome videos, every production is professionally filmed and edited with safeguarding considerations at the heart of the process, and built to work across your website, social media and open evenings.
